Poor Game at Fremantle

The game at Fremantle Oval yesterday between South Fremantle and East Perth at the commencement of operations indicated that the play would be fast. For a few minutes things were willing, but a lull in the operations soon came. The wind freshened up and seemed to blow from all quarters, and the ball became very tricky. In the third quarter a heavy shower fell, and the drenched players did not trouble themselves about the ball, which in the darkness of over hanging clouds was almost obscured from view. The ground was rendered slippery and the ball greasy, and the small attendance of onlookers were provided with amusement at the expense of the players, who in an endeavor to gain possession of the leather slid to the ground instead. "Soccer" was indulged in, and the "catch-as-catch-can" methods adopted were of a highly amusing order. Comben was missing from the red and white combination, and in his place Mitchell stripped. Away from the visitors' intended team were Verne, Harrold, Parsons brothers and Graham "Fat" Crawford again appeared for the all blues, and it was said that it would be his last time on the football field prior to his departure for the front.

The game was anything but scientific in fact, it was more like a schoolboys' match. At the conclusion of the play South had a majority of over two to one.
